Biography:

Carolyn Reed came to art relatively late in life after a career in business and raising her children.  She has studied informally with several teachers, but is largely self-taught.  Her work is as varied as her curiosity about her subject matter.  Her early work is exclusively watercolor and includes landscapes, still lifes and portraits.  These works are characterized by bright, clear colors and a passion for depicting the light and brightness of her subject matter.

After several years painting in watercolor, she moved into oils and acrylics to develop additional painting skills.  After some time working with these mediums, she was invited to study iconography at the request of her spiritual adviser.  Icons are considered “written” not painted.  This is because with each brush stroke the icon painter, or writer, is writing a prayer.  It is a form of prayer, meditation and contemplation that goes beyond the image being produced.  In short, it is a spiritual practice.

Examples of her work were shown at:

Cover Art - “Angel on My Shoulder”, published 2007.
